Since its public release on November 30, 2022, enthusiasts, researchers, technologists, and journalists have been expressing their awe at the capabilities of ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a conversational AI system, built on top of the GPT-3.5 project from the OpenAI foundation. ChatGPT is purpose-built to have a natural conversation with humans on general knowledge, science, software development, and a wide array of other topics. It is limited in how recent the information it has, but does excel in having an almost natural conversation.

So, now that it is publicly available in “kind of beta mode”, what can we really use it for?

Prepare for an interview

Preparing for an interview is a difficult task. A search on Google gives you a listing of hundreds of useless YouTube videos and how-to website links that were created with a click-bait motivation to get hits on their website.

ChatGPT on the other hand responded with to-the-point information when I asked it “I have the technical round of an interview for the position of Engineering Manager at Amazon. How should I prepare for it”.

Decorate your house

To decorate your house can be a daunting task. From deciding the color to the aesthetics to having the right decor articles, can be a pain to even get started. A search on duckduckgo or Google will give you 100k+ results, so much that it might make you more flabbergasted than you went in.

I tried asking “I want to decorate my living room with a Scandinavian look. Give me some ideas” to ChatGPT and it came back with clear pointers on how to get started. A clear starting point can go a long way in defining the directions you should work in to finish individual aspects of the decoration.
